Comedy Director Joe Schaak Joins STORY

STORY today announces that it has signed award-winning comedy director Joe Schaak for exclusive representation. Schaak, whose work has been short-listed at Cannes and included in the permanent collection at MOMA, specializes in character-driven comedy and is known for delivering genuine performances whether working with actors, celebrities or real people.

“Joe is a true comedy pro,” says STORY Executive Producer Mark Androw. “Agencies love working with him because he always shows great insight to the strategy and brings great ideas to the table. We’re very excited to welcome him to our roster.”

Schaak has directed more than 200 commercials over the course of his 20-year career. His classics include a Johnsonville spot in which a rogue bratwurst vendor takes over the broadcast booth at Lambeau Field, and a Super Bowl ad for Century 21 that featured guest appearances by Deion Sanders, Apolo Ohno and Donald Trump.

Recent efforts include a campaign for technology reseller featuring real people reading actual online reviews and cleverly staged to bring out their personality quirks. He also directed a deliciously deadpan campaign for health services nonprofit Baby Can Wait. In one spot, a man presents his nephew with an unusual gift: a breast pump. The boy, it turns out, is pregnant. “I loved that campaign because the agency was so collaborative and I was able to have a hand in developing the concepts,” he says.

Zeffirelli’s stunning and audacious film earned Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, and won Oscars for Cinematography and Costume Design. It drew critical praise for its sensitive portrayal of Shakespeare’s themes of love and senseless violence, and for Zeffirelli’s daring choice of casting teenage actors (Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey) in the title roles. The Arc/k Project Seeks to Preserve the Past while Fueling Hollywood Magic

New non-profit uses cutting-edge photogrammetry to create 3D replicas of endangered landmarks…while developing a model for the stewards of cultural heritage to monetize their digital assets by making them available to film and TV productions.

LOS ANGELES—The Arc/k Project, a new nonprofit focused on digital preservation, has developed a unique plan for creating 3-dimensional records of the world’s most endangered cultural assets while providing Hollywood filmmakers with a new and better way to incorporate exotic locations and artifacts into their productions.

Employing the latest photogrammetric imaging technology, the Arc/k Project is constructing precise 3D models of landmarks and historically valuable objects, many of which are under imminent threat from terrorist activity, global warming, environmental degradation and other factors. Its team of artists and technicians has already produced detailed models of Palmyra’s theater and Temple of Baalshamin, which were heavily damaged by ISIS last year. They are currently modeling Iceland’s Þingvellir, site of Europe’s first parliament, under threat from earthquakes and erosion.

“Our mission is to save endangered cultural assets,” says Brian Pope, the organization’s founder. “We want to preserve the ephemera of our world—glaciers that are retreating, cities that are changing, statues that are decaying—for future generations in a way never before possible.”
