NA’AMAT USA Celebrates 90 Years of Supporting Women in Israel at Gala Weekend in Las Vegas

Israel U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon to give Keynote Address

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.—NA’AMAT USA will commemorate 90 years as an organization at its 90th Anniversary Gala Celebration, July 29-31, in Las Vegas. In cooperation with NA’AMAT Israel, they provide a vast network of educational and social services for women, children and families in Israel. Members from around the country will gather to honor outgoing officers and install the historic, nonprofit organization’s new National Board, take part in meetings and workshops, listen to inspiring speakers, and celebrate nine decades of achievement and the prospects for a bright future.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, the Honorable Danny Danon, will give the Keynote Address on Friday night and Prof. Shula Reinharz, Founder and Director of Brandeis University’s Women’s Studies Research Center, will be a keynote speaker on Saturday afternoon. Other speakers will include Judy Telman, representing NA’AMAT Israel; Linda Meisel, Executive Director of the Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater Mercer County; and Dr. Nick Spirtos, Director, Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Women’s Cancer Center of Las Vegas.

NA’AMAT USA’s new National Board will be installed at the Gala’s climactic event on Sunday, July 31st. A new President, Chellie Goldwater Wilensky of Chicago will be installed as well as Vice Presidents and other officers. All officers will serve three-year terms.

AKA NYC Launches Market Research Firm Show & Tell Broadway

Emmy-Nominated VFX Supervisor/Producer James Tichenor Joins FuseFX, Vancouver

LOS ANGELES— Continuing to add depth and experience to its team in Vancouver, FuseFX has hired VFX Supervisor and Producer James Tichenor.

Tichenor, whose background includes posts with Sony Television, MGM Television, Entity FX and Prime Focus, will produce and supervise visual effects production for television, features and other media. He will also work with Senior VFX Supervisor Jason Dowdeswell, who heads FuseFX, Vancouver in broadening the capabilities and scope of FuseFX’s operations in Canada. His current projects include CBS’s sci-fi/thriller Zoo.

“James is a natural leader and brings a wealth of experience in visual effects and in many other aspects of production and post,” said company Founder and President David Altenau. “As such, he offers a unique perspective that will be very valuable our artists and our clients. He’s another strong addition to our team.”

Tichenor spent the past two years at Western Post in Vancouver where he was VFX Supervisor on a series of Netflix original movies. Prior to that, he was Development and Bidding Producer at Prime Focus World. His many credits include the television series Smallville, Stargate SG1 and Kingdom Hospital. He served as On-Set VFX Supervisor on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. He has been nominated for eight Emmy Awards, seven Gemini awards and four Visual Effects Society Awards.

Alchemy Post Sound Recreates the Sounds of the Rain Forest for “When Two Worlds Collide”

Foley Artist Leslie Bloome has created subtle sound effects for scores of documentaries, including Heidi Brandenburg Sierralta and Matthew Orzel’s award-winning film about environmental degradation in Peru.

Westchester, New York—When Two Worlds Collide, winner of the World Cinema documentary prize for Best First Feature at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, focuses on the alarming and sad conflict between indigenous people of the Peruvian rainforest and corporations bent on exploiting the region through mining, drilling and clear cutting. First time directors Heidi Brandenburg Sierralta and Matthew Orzel tell the story of a local leader, forced into exile for resisting the destruction of Amazonian land, and shed light on a crisis that has implications for the entire world. The film screens this month in DC as part of AFI film festival and will have its World  theatrical premiere at Film Forum in New York City on August 17, released by First Run Features. 

The realism, immediacy and emotional power of the film benefit from a studio caliber soundtrack that includes inspired Foley work from New York’s Alchemy Post Sound. Foley Artist Leslie Bloome, Mixer Ryan Collison, Second Foley Artist Jonathan Fang, and Foley Editor Nick Seaman produced a host of intricately crafted sounds to add realism to rainforest environments, street demonstrations, oil pipelines and other scenes.

Roundabout Entertainment Breathes New Life into “NYPD Blue”

Facility completes sparkling 2K restoration of eight seasons of the Emmy-winning series that defined police dramas in the 1990s.

BURBANK—In a project for 20th Century Fox spanning nine months, Roundabout Entertainment restored and remastered the first eight seasons of the classic procedural police drama NYPD Blue. More than 170 1-hour episodes were scanned and finished in 2K, restoring the show to pristine quality for a new domestic release.

Created by David Milch and Steven Bochco, NYPD Blue became an instant hit when it debuted in 1993 and drew critical praise for its street-level view of big city cops. Its ensemble cast, including Dennis Franz, Jimmy Smits and David Caruso, and tense, interweaving plotlines served as models for police dramas for years to come. The show won nine Emmys, four Golden Globes and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Indywood Film Carnival Set for September in Ramoji Film City

India’s largest celebration of cinema is part of an ambitious, $10 billion plan to build 4K theaters and grow the country’s film industry.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.—Plans for the 2nd Annual Indywood Film Carnival, the largest celebration of film ever produced in India, were announced today at a press conference in Beverly Hills. The world cinema event will include the All Lights India International Film Festival, featuring world premiere films from more than 100 countries; and the Indywood Film Market, India’s premiere global film marketplace; as well as conferences, panel discussions and workshops focused the world’s fastest growing market for cinema. The Carnival cinema, supported by the state government of Telangana and patronized by the Chief Minister of the State Sri K Chandrashekar Rao, will be held September 24 - 27 at Ramoji Film City, the world's largest integrated film studio complex. MTV’s “Scream” Returns to Chainsaw for a Second Chilling Season

Los Angeles— Post-production finishing for the second season of MTV’s hit show Scream: The TV Series is currently in high gear at Chainsaw in Hollywood. The facility is handling editorial finishing, color grading and deliverables. It is also supplying editing suites and gear used by series editors.

Scream: The TV Series, which returns to MTV on May 30th, is produced by The Weinstein Company’s Dimension TV and is based on the wildly successful teen horror film franchise directed by Wes Craven. The show has drawn rave reviews for its entertaining mix of horror and humor, and has proven a ratings magnet, especially among the prized demographics of teens and young adults.

GEORGE’s Lorcan Finnegan Takes EA Games to Its “Shiny Place”

In U.S. debut, Irish director lenses inspired campaign launching new mobile game Bejeweled Stars.

LOS ANGELES—GEORGE’s Lorcan Finnegan has directed a new campaign for Electronic Arts and Team One that offers a whimsical take on the life-altering power of the new “match-3” game Bejeweled Stars.

In one of four spots, a man finds escape from his wife’s boring television show in a game of Bejeweled Stars. He matches a set of tiles and suddenly everything around him changes. His gauche apartment is transformed into curling arena, lit like a disco dance hall. His wife and dog furiously sweep the ice as he rides a giant curling stone toward a goal. The campaign tagline is “Go to your Shiny Place.”

Conceived by Team One Creative Directors Kathryn McFarlane and Phil Henson, the campaign marks the U.S. debut of the Irish-born Finnegan, who recently joined GEORGE through its alliance with Dublin production company Butter. The young director has built a devoted following among some of the top agencies in Europe for his quirky brand of comedy, unusual casting and imaginative production design.

Supervising Sound Editor George H. Anderson Joins Sony Pictures Post Production Services

CULVER CITY, CALIF.— Veteran Supervising Sound Editor and Sound Designer George H. Anderson has joined Sony Pictures Post Production Services.  Anderson brings a deep and varied resume in sound with more than 75 credits in film and television. He has completed several recent projects at Sony Pictures, including Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday and Trainwreck .

"George is a dedicated and gifted sound artist, and a terrific addition to our fantastic roster of talent,” said Tom McCarthy. “He consistently delivers superb work in behalf of filmmakers and their stories, and is always working to refine and improve his craft.”

Anderson has worked as an independent Supervising Sound Editor and Sound Designer for much of his career. Notable credits include We’re the Millers, Bridesmaids, Superbad and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Groundhog Day, Rudy and Stepbrothers.
Anderson is excited to find a home at Sony Pictures. “I’ve done a lot of shows on the lot and love the ambience and the facilities,” he said. “I’m very impressed with the resources the studio has devoted to sound and the direction the department is headed under Tom McCarthy.”

After beginning his career as an assistant picture editor in commercials in 1979. He later transitioned to sound and got his first opportunity to work as a sound editor on a feature on the Mel Brooks film History of the World, Part One. He earned his first credit as a supervisor on the television series Crime Story and won MPSE Golden Reel awards for his work on Predator and Die Hard.

Commercial Production Company Cultivate.Media Launches; Signs Acclaimed Director Ali Ali

VFX Producer Chad Hudson Joins FuseFX

LOS ANGELES—Veteran Visual Effects Producer Chad Hudson, whose credits include The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones,  has joined FuseFX. Based at the company’s Los Angeles facility, Hudson becomes part of a diverse production team that is creating effects for Fox’s Sleepy Hollow and pilots for CBS and Amazon, as well as other upcoming television projects.

“We’re excited to welcome Chad to our incredible team,” said FuseFX President David Altenau. “Chad is a very smart and talented producer who knows how to deliver projects on time and with outstanding results. He will be a great asset to our artists and our clients.”

Hudson arrives from Rhythm & Hues where he worked on a variety of television and commercial projects. He was a visual effects producer on the Game of Thrones episode The Dance of Dragons, which won a 2016 Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects. He also contributed to ten episodes of The Walking Dead as well as the theme park attraction The Marvel Experience.

Motion Picture Sound Editors Hosts Avid “Cloud Collaboration” Demonstration

“Sound Advice” event slated for May10th at Sony Pictures Studios.

Studio City, California – The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) will host Sound Advice: Pro Tools 12.5 Avid Cloud Collaboration, a special event for MPSE members, May 10th at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. Held in partnership with Sony Pictures Post Production Services and Avid, the event will include a technical overview and demonstration of Avid’s new cloud collaboration functionality which allows editors and mixers to effortlessly collaborate on Pro Tools projects. Avid will also present a technology preview of new editorial features under development.

WCPMedia Services Helps FICTS Manage Submissions to 2016 World FICTS Challenge

Cloud-based platform used to store and share sports media for 19 festivals on five continents.

LUGANO, Switzerland—The Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs (FICTS) has selected WCPMedia Services’ cloud-based digital asset management platform WCPApp to receive, manage, store and distribute submissions to its 2016 FICTS Festivals and World FICTS Challenge.
Recognized by the International Olympics Committee, the FICTS Festivals are a circuit of 19 sports media festivals held in cities around the globe. 

The festival showcases work from sports broadcasters, producers, advertising agencies, national Olympics committees, sports federations and others involved in sports media. Competitive categories include Documentaries, Cinema, Television & New Technologies, Sports Advertising, Sport & Society, Football in Cinema and Television, and Olympic Spirit or Values. The best work from the local festivals will be selected for inclusion in World FICTS Challenge slated for 15-20 November in Milan. A worldwide audience of more than 3 million people is expected to attend the festivals.
