Renegade Animation Goes Retro in Animated Campaign for Wienerschnitzel

DGWB’s cleverly quirky, music-driven spots parody westerns, beach movies, Hollywood musicals and more!
GLENDALE, Calif.—Renegade Animation takes Wienerschnitzel back to the ‘60s in a new, animated advertising campaign for the restaurant chain. Conceived by Orange County, California agency DGWB, the commercials use retro animation and jingles to evoke Wienerschnitzel’s 1961 origins.
One spot spoofs vintage TV Westerns as a hot dog named Big Angus arrives in a southwestern town wearing a ten-gallon hat and packing a ketchup dispenser where his shootin’ iron ought to be. Another spot is a send-up of an MGM-style musical with a guy in top hat and tuxedo starring in an elaborate production number about Wienerschnitzel’s million dollar “Cash in on a Corn Dog” sweepstakes.

AKA NYC Lends Expertise to Advertising Week’s Advertising Futures Competition

NEW YORK— Entertainment marketing agency AKA NYC is mentoring a team of some of New York City’s brightest and most creative high school students competing in the Advertising Futures competition associated with this year’s Advertising Week event. Their work, along with submissions from other teams, will be presented to a jury composed of leading New York City advertising professionals on October 1st.

Market Technology to Represent Advantage Video Systems’ 4Kase in Latin America

MTI Film Announces CORTEX Dailies Support for ProRes 4444 XQ

HOLLYWOOD—MTI Film today announced that CORTEX Dailies has added support for decoding and encoding Apple ProRes 4444 XQ. Support is available in a new update, CORTEX v1.5.3.
ProRes 4444 XQ delivers a very high data rate to preserve detail captured by the latest digital cinema cameras. ARRI recently announced support for the codec in its popular ALEXA camera.

“The new ProRes codec is able to capture and preserve detail in high dynamic range imagery including log-encoded imagery from cameras like the ALEXA,” observed MTI Film Vice President of Product Development David McClure. “Its purpose is to encode greater detail in images that will later be used as a source for color correction or visual effects. For those processes, the higher bit rate helps.”

“The number of manufacturers who support this new codec is growing,” McClure added. “It is a format that can be interchanged with other applications while maintaining a high level of quality.”

STORY’s Jeff France Explores the Lighter Side of Moving in New PODS Campaign

People seek help with life’s challenges from courteous call center employees.

Call center workers dispense advice on moving, storage and some of life’s most ticklish problems in a clever new campaign directed by STORY’s Jeff France for PODS and The Richards Group.

Each of four new spots features a telephone exchange between a PODS call center rep and a potential customer. In Don’t Like, a man describes a litany of things he dreads about an upcoming move, including “housework,” “feeling rushed,” “people pestering me,” and “talking.” The friendly PODS agent responds with advice on how the company can help him avoid these problems. She’s momentarily speechless, however, when he says the job for which he’s relocating is “marriage counselor.”

Howling Music Launches Office in London with Grammy-Winning Producer David Hentschel

NASHVILLE—Howling Music, a Nashville-based provider of original music for advertising, has opened an office in London in collaboration with Grammy-winning music producer, engineer and composer David Hentschel, known for his work with such artists as Elton John, Genesis and The Yellowjackets.

Howling Music London will compose and produce music for television commercials, branded content, web media and other advertising content for agencies and clients across Europe and the United States. Hentschel and Howling Music founder David Grow will serve as co-managing directors. The new venture launches with a small UK-based production and sales team and plans to bring on additional composers, producers and other staff.

Colorworks Restores “Ghostbusters” for 30th Anniversary Release

Culver City, Calif. — Colorworks provided picture restoration and re-mastering services for a spectacular new 4K version of Ivan Reitman’s 1984 comedy classic Ghostbusters. Sony Pictures re-released the feature, one of the most beloved comedy titles in its library, over the Labor Day weekend to theaters across the U.S. and Canada in celebration of its 30th anniversary.  Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the restored film in a 30th Anniversary Blu-ray special edition on September 16.

Restoration at Colorworks began by scanning the original 35mm camera negative at 4K. Scanned elements then went through a scrupulous 4K restoration and color grading process resulting in a new 4K master. Extreme care and attention was employed to restore the film. “As with all restoration projects, our goal was to reflect what was shot and the intent of the filmmakers,” said Rita Belda, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Vice President of Asset Management, Film Restoration and Digital Mastering.
