NBC Universal Chooses MTI Film’s Control Dailies

 



HOLLYWOOD— NBC Universal has selected MTI Film’s Control Dailies Enterprise and Cortex::ControlDailies as its solution for processing digital camera dailies. The company has also increased its digital film restoration capacity through the purchase of additional seats of MTI Film’s Correct DRS™.

STORY Aids and Abets Serta Sheep Heist

Aardman Animation and STORY combine talents to create a new national TV spot for Serta.



Aardman Animation and STORY teamed up for a new commercial for Serta in which the brand’s award-winning Counting Sheep break into a mattress factory in hopes of committing the “Perfect Sleeper” crime.

Conceived by Doner of Southfield Michigan, Mattress Heist marks the return of the animated Counting Sheep created by award winning animation studio Aardman, which first appeared in the company’s ads more than a decade ago. In this case, the furry animals break into a factory showroom in a middle-of-the-night caper to “see what Serta’s been up to.” Rifling through company files and computers, they learn that Serta’s Perfect Sleeper is “the only official mattress of the National Sleep Foundation” and has been shown to cure common sleep problems. In hopes of retaining their jobs as sleep inducers to insomniacs, the sheep make off with a mattress on their backs.

Madheart’s Thor Aces T-Mobile “Snow Golf” Spot

LOS ANGELES— Thor, represented in the U.S. by Madheart, has directed a new spot for T-Mobile in which hundreds of people grab magenta-handled clubs and engage in a game of snow golf. Conceived by G7 and produced by Dynamo Film, the spot shows people taking part in a T-Mobile event in an urban park, competing for prizes by hitting golf balls (like the clubs styled in the brand’s trademark magenta) around a golf course laid out in the snow. A few of the golfers have skills, but most are novices, with one winning the grand prize after her ball bounces off a tree and into a hole.

MTI Film Joins Sony Electronics' F65 Training Program as Workflow Partner

 



HOLLYWOOD— MTI Film was recently selected by Sony Electronics’ Professional Solutions of America Group as a workflow partner in its newly-opened Digital Motion Picture Center (DMPC). The Center offers hands-on training for directors, cinematographers and other film and television professionals in the use of Sony’s F65 CineAlta camera and production workflows that support it.

The Colonie’s Tom Pastorelle Teams Up With HY Connect For Series Of Blue Cross Blue Shield Spots.

CHICAGO— Editor Tom Pastorelle of The Colonie has joined with HY Connect to create a series of four spots for Blue Cross Blue Shield,  Parachute, Horse, Guide and Birthday,” which are currently running in Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Parachute shows two men about to embark on a skydiving adventure, both left to choose between a secure and trustworthy pack and a pack with rips and duct tape holding it together. Horse shows a man and his decision to go with a safe older horse for his young daughter to ride as opposed to a larger bucking horse. Guide depicts a couple choosing between a muscular young trail guide with a GPS and an older man with a pet raccoon who uses a trail of breadcrumbs to plot his course. And finally, Birthday shows a princess themed birthday party full of young girls who are left to choose between a mime and a fairy princess as entertainment. All spots illustrate scenarios in which characters must make a decision with humorously obvious choices.

UnitZeroVFX Producing VFX for "The Quiet Ones"

 Boutique visual effects provider embarks on first feature film project for Hammer, an Exclusive Media company, and TPSC Films.

HOLLYWOOD—UnitZeroVFX, a division of the award-winning studio The Traveling Picture Show Company, announced today that it will serve as sole visual effects provider for Hammer’s The Quiet Ones, a supernatural thriller directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2: Terminal) and starring Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, ‘Mad Men’), Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) Erin Richards (‘Breaking In’, ‘Being Human’), Olivia Cooke (‘The Secret of Crickley Hall’, ‘The Fuse’) and West-End theater actor Rory Fleck-Byrne. The film is produced by James Gay-Rees (Senna, Exit through the Gift Shop) and Ben Holden in association with TPSC Films.

The Joneses Signs Director John Bonito for Advertising Work

Santa Monica, Calif.— Director John Bonito, known for his work in comedy, sports and action, has signed with The Joneses for exclusive representation in commercials. Bonito, whose work also includes network promos and features, has directed recent ads for such brands as Zyrtec, Doritos and Pep Boys. His most recent project was a global broadcast and online campaign for Unilever and NBC/Universal launching the former’s new product, Clear Shampoo.

Mel Gragido, executive producer of The Joneses, called Bonito a storyteller par excellence who brings a rare combination of wit, design and intelligence to his narratives. “He has enormous talent that hasn’t been fully tapped,” Gragido says. “Given the right opportunities, there is no limit to what he can achieve.” Gragido added that Bonito’s experience in working with celebrities is another big plus.

Colorworks Posts “Eldorado” Shot with F65 Camera

Motion picture short, directed by Curtis Clark, ASC is graded and finished in 4K with ACES color management.

Culver City, Calif.— Colorworks provided 4K post production finishing services for Eldorado, a motion picture short, produced by Sony to demonstrate the capabilities of its next generation F65 CineAlta™ digital motion picture camera. Eldorado, which debuted at NAB 2012, was written, directed and lensed by Curtis Clark, ASC, who also directed The Arrival, a short film shot with the F65 last year.

Technicolor – PostWorks Posts Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom”

NEW YORK—  Technicolor - PostWorks New York, a Slate Media Group company, provided an array of film laboratory and digital post production services for Moonrise Kingdom, the new motion picture from Focus Features and director Wes Anderson that opens the Cannes International Film Festival. The facility handled film processing, dailies production, digital intermediate color grading. DCP production and film recording were done at Technicolor, Los Angeles.

Moonrise Kingdom, set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, tells the story of two 12-year-olds (screen newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman and Bob Balaban star in the film, which Focus Features releases beginning May 25.

Gyro and Dark Light Pictures Deliver “Mad Men” Style Spot for Digital Marketing Specialist Turn

HOLLYWOOD—Digital marketing specialist Turn will air its first-ever broadcast spot during the June 10th season finale of the AMC series Mad Men and the season finale of AMC’s The Pitch reality show. Conceived by San Francisco agency gyro and directed by Michael Lehmann of Dark Light Pictures, Hollywood, the ad is set in the offices of a Madison Avenue agency, circa 1962, where an impeccably groomed ad exec is about to begin a tryst with a shapely young woman from the secretarial pool. Then, another woman walks in.

The Colonie’s Bob Ackerman and Leo Burnett Release Two New Spots for The Beef Checkoff’s “Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner.” Campaign

CHICAGO— Editor Bob Ackerman of The Colonie has teamed up with Leo Burnett Chicago to create two new spots for The Beef Checkoff. These are the first spots by The Beef Checkoff in quite a while and take a fresh approach to a well-known campaign.

Invitation and Island feature a reworking of The Beef Checkoff’s theme music, Aaron Copland’s Rodeo.  The spots use a more intimate solo piano arrangement of the traditionally orchestral song and don’t reveal the iconic melody until midway through the commercial.

Burbank’s FILMLOOK MEDIA and POST Adds Colour Grading via FilmLight’s Baselight



LONDON—In a move to significantly improve and expand its services, Burbank post-production facility FILMLOOK Media and Post has purchased a Baselight colour grading system from FilmLight. The new system, which includes FilmLight’s revolutionary Blackboard 2 control panel, allows FILMLOOK, for the first time, to provide its television clients, who include Disney Channel, Fox, CBS, ESPN and HBO, with colour grading services in a file-based workflow. It also allows the company to initiate a new service: DCP mastering for feature films.
