CSS Studios Brings Re-Recording Mixer Gary C. Bourgeois to Todd-AO


HOLLYWOOD; May 31, 2012 – Gary C. Bourgeois, one of the film industry’s top re-recording mixers, has joined CSS StudiosTodd-AO. The move marks a return to Todd-AO for Bourgeois as he was previously on staff at the sound company from 1985 to 2001. Known for his work in romantic comedies, action films and documentaries, Bourgeois recently mixed the films The Raven and 50/50.

 “We are very pleased to welcome Gary Bourgeois home to Todd-AO,” said CSS Studios President Robert C. Rosenthal. “He is a great talent and enjoys universal respect in the sound industry for his skill and professionalism. We look forward to being part of the next chapter in his career.”

National Lampoon Shoots at Hollywood Center Studios

HOLLYWOOD—Hollywood Center Studios recently played host to the cast and crew of National Lampoon’s Another Dirty Movie. Directed Jonathan Silverman, the film is the sequel to National Lampoon’s Dirty Movie, a sketch comedy  starring Robert Klein and Mario Cantone whose outrageous humor has won it a cult following.

After completing principal photography in Louisiana, the current production set up shop on Stage 2A to shoot pick-ups as well as a number of celebrity cameos. (The stars’ identities are being kept secret until the film’s premiere.) Newly refurbished, Stage 2A features a fixed, green screen, 2-wall cyc that made set up and lighting easy.

“It was a fantastic shoot; it went far beyond our expectations,” says Silverman. “They treated us like kings.”

Soundelux Design Music Group Celebrates 20 Years of Excellence in Sound for Games

HOLLYWOOD — As it marks its 20th anniversary this year, Hollywood-based Soundelux Design Music Group (“DMG”),  which creates sound for games, commercials and location-based entertainment, has plenty of reason to celebrate. Pathak brought with him a treasure trove of unique percussion instruments on which he performed a variety rhythms and sounds from his native India. LOS ANGELES— Morten Tyldum, director of Headhunters, the most successful Norwegian film of all time, has joined Bully Pictures for exclusive representation for advertising work in the United States. Tyldum, who recently signed with Vendome Pictures to direct his first American feature (What Happened to Monday?) is sought after internationally for his work in commercials. His spot work has garnered two Cannes Lions as well as numerous other creative awards.

Codex Powers ARRIRAW Workflow for “Riddick”

Montreal’s Michel Trudel introduces Codex Onboard recorders and Transfer Station to Eastern Canada.

LONDON—Michel Trudel Inc., operators of Canada’s largest production studio, supplied Codex recording and workflow technologies to the long anticipated sequel to Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, tentatively titled Riddick . Codex Onboard recorders were used to capture ARRIRAW data from two ARRI Alexa cameras. A Codex Transfer Station was used for on-set dailies processing, back-up and deliverables production.

As with the franchise’s first film Pitch Black, Riddick united director David Twohy and cinematographer David Eggby, ACS. Principal photography was completed on four stages with full sets. The sets described alien landscapes that filled the entire floor space and allowed Eggby and his crew to shoot 360-degrees. One stage alone was rigged with more than 500 feet of green screen material.

Burbank. Before sailing back into theaters, newly and spectacularly rendered in 3D, Titanic went through final inspection via leading edge digital mastering and stereoscopic technology from DVS. Director James Cameron and his team from Lightstorm Entertainment used DVS’s CLIPSTER® and FUZE systems to review scenes from the movie in stereo as it was undergoing the 3D conversion process. CLIPSTER and FUZE facilitated the playback of uncompressed (2K) media in stereo allowing Cameron to view the film on a big screen in precisely the same form as audiences will see it in cinemas.

Original Signs Director Jessy Terrero

LOS ANGELES— Jessy Terrero, director of music videos for such artists as 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Ludacris, Enrique Iglesias and Chris Brown, has signed with Original for exclusive representation in commercials. Terrero, who recently wrapped his latest feature, Freelancers, starring Robert De Niro, has directed ads campaigns for such brands as Reebok and the energy drink Street King. He is also the director of Soul Plane, starring Snoop Dog, Tom Arnold, Kevin Hart and DL Hughley, to name a few.
